Arguably the most advanced and powerful tactical fighter in the world, the F/A-22 Raptor entered service in 2005. Developed as a replacement for the F-15 Eagle, this amazing feat of technology was engineered for super cruise speed, manoeuvrability and advanced integrated avionics. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the Raptor perform at the Toronto International Air Show and can certainly testify of its amazing abilities.
Powered by two Pratt and Whitney F119-100 engines, the F/A-22 has demonstrated the ability to cruise at sustained speeds of over Mach 1.5 without using afterburners. In its main bomb bay it can carry six AMRAAM Aim-120 missiles or two AMRAAM and two 1,000lb GBU-32 bombs. The side bays can each be loaded with one AIM-9M or AIM-9X Sidewinder all-aspect short-range air-to-air missile.
Tamiya has done a great job with the production of this small sized 1/72 scale model. The F/A-22 Raptor was a fun project. Enjoy the images.
