HISTORY
Mitsubishi J2M “Raiden” is a single-engine land-based propeller aircraft based on the Imperial Japanese Navy Used in World War II. The code name of the Allies is “Jack”.
J2M was designed by Jiro Horikoshi, the father of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. It is purely an internal defense interceptor, intended to counter the danger of being attacked by high altitude bombers, so it will be based on velocity, high altitude and flight capabilities. Strongly equipped by the trade-offs. The J2M is a slim, fat-slender aircraft with an oversized Mitsubishi Kasei engine underneath a long hood, cooled by fan blades and driven to the rotor with a long shaft. Pilot’s vision is poor.
The main task of the Raiden units was to prevent the B-29 Superfortress bombers from flying over the islands of Japan. Strong weaponry and good flying features made it the B-29’s rival, but the numbers were not enough to resist all bombers in Japan.
