History
The F-22 Raptor is a single seat, twin-engine stealth fighter aircraft that was engineered for advanced avionics, speed and maneuverability. Of the many highlights, this outstanding feat of technology can supercruise at an estimated speed of Mach 1.82 without the use of afterburners. Since entering service, back in late 2004, Lockheed Martin has maintained that the F-22 Raptor is the best overall fighter in existence.
The F-22A Block 20 (#03-044) represented in this Tamiya model was assigned to the 27th Fighter Squadron based in Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. Known as the “Fighting Eagles”, it is the oldest squadron in the United States Air Force. Organized as the 21st Aero Squadron back on June 15 of 1917, it originally flew legendary biplanes, such as the Nieuport 28, Spad XIII and the Sopwith F-1 Camel. In modern times, the “Fighting Eagles” have become the world’s first operational F-22 Raptor squadron. This small Tamiya model has great detail for a 1/72 scale. Another great kit by the people of Tamiya. Enjoy the photos.
