History
The youngest general of the Luftwaffe, Adolf Galland, was one of Germany’s most well known fighter aces. He was credited with 104 air victories during his flying career, including 35 victories during the Battle of Britain that took place in the 1940s.
Although Galland flew a variety of aircraft – Bf109’s, Fw190, and an Me262 – his preffered fighter was the Bf109. In 1941, after Molders death, Galland took over as the Luftwaffe’s fighter chief. To commemorate the event, Luftwaffe commander Reichsmarschall Hermann Goering presented Galland with a new fighter in a special paint scheme. The fighter was a specially converted Bf109F-2 with a fixed armament of 2x 20mm cannons in the wings. This was one of two F’s flown by Galland that had non-standard armament.
Note that I successfully installed gun barrels of the 20mm MG FF cannon using metal, protruding from the wing leading edge. Galland was able to down a Spitfire flying this aircraft. The paint scheme for this airplane model kit is RLM 74 and 75 over RLM 76 Light Blue. Spinner and propeller blades are RLM 70 Black Green and rudder RLM 04 Yellow. This is a great looking replica of Galland’s unusual Bf109F-2.
